La Cubilla
La Cubilla is one of the most enjoyable climbs to ride in Spain. It is sometimes known locally as the Asturian Galibier, in reference to its length and the scenery. Its upper slopes certainly have an Alpine feel, although the lower part of the climb is typically Asturian, with sharp peaks rising from steep valleys. La Cubilla is one of those climbs that anyone who has tackled it will remember with real fondness. It is long and has a great elevation gain, but it is never a real struggle and the views throughout the climb certainly justify the effort to climb it. La Cubilla is a fairly recent addition to the Vuelta a EspaƱa race, but immediately became a favourite with fans and riders alike, both for its challenge as well as its scenery.
