Alpe d’Huez Alpe d’Huez

Ride Country Alpe d’Huez  Strava Segment

One of the most famous climbs from the history of the Tour the France, it starts at the roundabout just outside of Bourg d’Oisans. The numbered switchbacks count down from 21 to 1 going to the village of Alpe d’Huez. Proceeding to the summit from the village some extra unnumbered switchbacks need to be conquered. The first part to the village of La Garde at bend 16 is the hardest, but it never gets easy after that! Bend 7, just before the village of Huez at the church of Saint-Ferréol, is the Dutch corner during the Tour de France. The fastest time is set by Marco Pantani during the Tour de France of 1997. He did it in around 37 minutes (depending on where you start the timing). These days, the pro riders can do it in about 40 minutes.
