Kals am Grossglockner

 Kals am Grossglockner

The municipality of Kals enjoys a fine position at the foot of Austria’s highest mountain, the Großglockner, and is home to 1,200 inhabitants. This pretty collection of farmhouses with 1,200 inhabitants lies within the Hohe Tauern National Park and is dominated by the “King of the Eastern Alps”, as the 3,798m high Großglockner is known, as well as many further peaks over 3,000m in the Schober and Granatspitz Mountains. Despite its remote location, this area has a long history of tourism and welcomed its first visitors in the 19th century. Climbers and hikers continue to flock here today, drawn by the untouched nature and absence of lifts and large hotel buildings often found elsewhere.
