Felbertauern (North Side)

 Felbertauern (North Side)

Shorter, but steeper climb to the Felbertauern tunnel, which connects province of Salzburg with East Tyrol. Beautiful evening colors on high peaks of the Hohe Tauern mountains. The tunnel was completed in 1967. It’s 5,282m long and usually open all year round. The area south and north of the Felbertauern tunnel is a real Mecca for ice climbers and offers more than 100 ice and mixed routes of all lengths and degrees of difficulty. This north side gets a little harder the closer we get to the tunnel entrance. At the only hairpin, where the road to the beautiful Hintersee starts, the percentages start to really rise.
