Col des Aravis (North side)
The Col des Aravis is a scenic mountain pass in the French Alps, connecting the departments of Haute-Savoie and Savoie. It sits at 1,486 meters (4,875 ft) and offers stunning panoramic views, including glimpses of Mont Blanc on clear days. It is a favorite among both cyclists and hikers, with traditional alpine charm evident in its villages and chalets. The climb isn’t extremely difficult compared to some other Alpine passes, making it a popular choice for amateurs and those looking to enjoy the scenery. However, it can still provide a solid challenge, especially if incorporated into longer rides. The pass has been used 41 times in the Tour de France, most recently in 2020, often as a warm-up climb before more challenging passes in the region, such as the Col de la Colombière or Col des Saisies.
