Col de Tentes
The Col de Tentes is a high mountain pass in the French Pyrenees, situated at an altitude of 2,208 meters (7,244 feet), near the border with Spain. It is located in the Hautes-Pyrénées department, within the Parc National des Pyrénées, and offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks, including the iconic Cirque de Gavarnie and Breche de Roland. The ascent to Col de Tentes offers uninterrupted views of the Cirque de Gavarnie, one of the most famous natural landmarks in the Pyrenees. The Cirque is a massive glacial amphitheater, known for its towering rock walls and the Gavarnie Falls, one of the highest waterfalls in Europe. At the summit of Col de Tentes, visitors are treated to panoramic views of the Pyrenean range, including the nearby Breche de Roland, a natural rock formation that straddles the border between France and Spain. Despite its beauty, the Col de Tentes has not been featured in the Tour de France, but it remains a hidden gem for those looking to escape the more crowded passes.
