Cottonwood Pass (elevation 3,694 m) is a high mountain pass in the Sawatch Range of the Rocky Mountains. The area surrounding the pass is mostly forest, with the San Isabel National Forest to the east and the Gunnison National Forest to the west. The Continental Divide is marked at the saddle point of Cottonwood Pass. It is the third-highest paved road in the state and the highest paved road crossing of the Continental Divide. The Sawatch Range is a high and extensive mountain range in central Colorado which includes eight of the twenty highest peaks in the Rocky Mountains, including Mount Elbert, at 14,440 feet (4,401 m) elevation, the highest peak in the Rockies.
