Dante’s View is one of the most breathtaking and scenic viewpoints in Death Valley National Park, California. Perched at an elevation of about 5,476 feet (1,669 meters), it offers a stunning panoramic view of the expansive Death Valley Basin below, including the salt flats of Badwater Basin, the lowest point in North America. Dante’s View is located on the eastern side of Death Valley National Park, about 13 miles south of Furnace Creek. The road leading to Dante’s View is paved but steep and winding, especially towards the summit. From Dante’s View, you can see the highest and lowest points in the contiguous United States simultaneously. To the west, Mount Whitney (14,505 feet) and to the east, Badwater Basin (-282 feet) are visible on a clear day. Cycling to Dante’s View is considered a very challenging ride, particularly because of the steep ascent and the desert heat. The ride starts from the valley floor at Furnace Creek and climbs nearly 5,500 feet over roughly 25 miles (40 km). The last few miles of the climb are particularly steep, with grades of up to 15%.
