La Veta Pass
La Veta Pass, elevation 9,413 ft (2,869 m), is a main travel route in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of south central Colorado, connecting San Luis Valley and Walsenburg. La Veta Pass is the highest active freight railroad pass in North America, The Rio Grande Scenic Railroad operates steam excursion trains between Alamosa and La Veta over the pass.
